Woodland Slime Moulds

Slimes or slime moulds as we do not like to call them as they are not mould, they are not hard to find many have bright wonderful colours. They are single cell and spore, they feed on dead wood an leaves in fact they are good cleaners. They like oats as well and can be very cleaver at finding there way to favourite foods. They will navigate a maze made by people to get to food. Please enjoy the photos and keep a look out for them in your local woodlands they do not harm people.

Find out more about slimes and many other flora, fauna, and fungi at these two websites.

Although they are Hainault forest many much of the wildlife can be found at your local woods.

So where does fantasy and anime come in.

I was surprised how fantasy and anime productions have studied slimes they are portrayed as monsters and also as friends. They do in real life help clean woodland they can multiply quickly and are smart.

Cinnabar Moth

The very colourful caterpillars look as though they are in a football kit Wolves FC spring to mind.

They eventually become a a just as colourful Red and Dark Grey Moth. these were found at Hainault forest in 2022. The caterpillars where quit exposed on the gorse bush maybe the colours deter predators.

A good web site to look up Moths and Butterflies is https://butterfly-conservation.org/moths/cinnabar

You will find all the information you need.

See you there.

Here are photos of the restoration.

They have worked hard and done a grand job thanks to all the workmen and sponsors that made it possible I will now in my retirement age have somewhere warm to hang out with all my friends and family. I just hope some of my wildlife friends do not follow me in.

Do look at the Hainault Forest History, Flora and Fauna website.
